Hello all our crafty friends out there, what an absolutely fabulous January we had with you entering your wonderful Love and Hearts pieces of artwork by the hundreds. We were mega excited to see so many of you and extend our thanks to each and every one of you for helping make is such a great month.

Here is a little bit from Katherine about her crafting journey..................

"Hello. My name is Katherine. I live in the Philippines. I'm a single mother of two beautiful children, Kath 17 and Rein 11. My Mom lives with me. My favorite hobby is cross stitching in 1997 and became my business for over 9 years. I had a shop and sell cross stitch supplies. It was then closed in 2006 and shift and moved my business into a variety store located in front of our house.

Photography and making handmade cards became a hobby too (and a business also) and started blogging it in September 2009. I was first introduced in drawings and making digital images. Some of my blog friends using my digital images in their cards. I have a lot of drawings kept in my drawing book, hopefully they will be shared soon. Some of the images I drew are now in rubber stamps that I made them myself. I never thought I will be recognized with my creations and projects especially in making cards and this inspires me everyday. Thank you so much. And by the way I'm also a Bonsai Enthusiast."

"Hello, I am Paula and first of all, I want to thank you Brenda and the Penny Black and More design team for this honour. I first got involved in stamping about two years ago, when I was searching about customize a box for my sister, in that moment I discovered a new world for me. Since then, I spend hours visiting blogs and watching online videos to learn new techniques.

When I have a few free time I take out my tools and stamps and I let my imagination run wild. I am a “stamp addict” and love all stamps. I don’t think I really have a particular style, perhaps I could describe most of my works as rather funny and coloring , but I always try to make something new and I love the shabby-chic style."

In the Spotlight................

A very Good Morning to you all, I am thrilled to be here to introduce our very first 'In the Spotlight' featre'.

With so many entries last month and with such high standards of work, choosing our favourites was really difficult. But we believe the system we have implemented where each of the DT who themselves have their own unique crafting style put forward their two favourites as the initial part of our voting process, all entrants are offered an equal and fair opportunity of being selected.

So I am pleased to introduce you to the final two, Amelia and Sharon together with a few comments from the DT as to why they selected their entries, plus a little bio about each along with their winning entry. I do hope you will take time to pop along and visit them both and see more of their fabulous work.

"Hello, I am Amelia Breytenbach. I am delighted to feature in the spotlight post on The Penny Black and More Challenge blog – it is such a honour. I am married for 27 years to my loving and supportive husband and we live in Pretoria, South Africa with our two dogs. I am a librarian at a large residential university for the past 32 years but when I am at home I keep myself busy with card making – I love creating, and stamping is my passion. I have been stamping for 8 years now but started my own blog and entered challenges since February 2010. Since blogging I met so many new and wonderful friends from around the world sharing my passion. I was on an amazing design team and along with talented card makers I did some guest designing for a few inspirational challenge blogs. I have a variety of stamps from several companies, local and abroad but am totally addicted to Penny Black stamps. I am also passionate about creating with die cuts and vintage scraps. My favourite colouring technique is watercolour pencils and I love to add detail to my cards, especially flowers and lace. "I’ve always been a crafter and dabbled in many crafting hobbies making homemade gifts and the like since I was very young. But I first got involved in stamping about nine years ago when I was invited to a card-making party. A few years later, a friend invited me into a stamp “club” that met monthly and my stamp crafting really took off from there. Now I’m totally obsessed with stamping – it really is the perfect creative outlet for me. My favorite creative styles are vintage cards with lace and pearls and lots of layers. But I dabble with the whimsical and playful images in cards with bright, fun colors and patterns too."

Good Monring Peeps, welcome to the first of our new style challenges here at Penny Black and More.

For those of you who missed the announcement last month, here are the important bits you need to know:

You can now use any make of stamp on your entry, although strictly no digi images. Every entry meeting the months challenge theme and requirements will be eligible for the general prizes on offer.
Those entries will also be eligible for our 'In The Spotlight monthly' feature, where we will be selecting two entries each month which stand out to us. Highlighted entries will be published on or about the 20th of the following month and I will be inviting those lucky peeps to write a short bio about their crafting journey to be publish along with their work.

The DT's challenge

Each kit contained 3 sheets Basic Grey DP (all slightly different but from the same family), 3m white seam binding, TH clock and hinges cut from Coredinations, 2 white flowers.

As promised I am back to share with you the work the DT came up with when I set them a challenge earlier this month. I sent each one a kit containing the above items and this is what they all came up with.

Some exciting changes

Hello everybody, I did promise you we would have some exciting news for you later this month and at last I can share it with you.

There are going to be a few changes to our challenge, but Penny Black and the Design Team think they are going to make it even better than before and allow lots more of you to join in........................

We are opening up the challenge entry criteria and starting with our November challenge you will be able to use any stamp on your work, although strictly no digi images.

And we are changing the day of our challenges which in future will launch on the first Sunday of the month.

There will still be lots of prizes on offer and all eligible entries will go into the draw, plus there will be an additional prize each month for entries using a Penny Black stamp or stickeroo.

And as if all that was not enough, we will be having a “Who’s in the Spotlight” feature every month. The DT will be keeping an eye open as they go on their rounds and each month we will feature two entries which stand out to us. Those entries will be able to display our special logo....................and we will invite those peeps to write a short bio about their crafting journey which will be published on our blog. The first will be on or about 20th December based on November challenge entries.

There will be a slight change to our name to take account of these changes and in future we will be know as ‘Penny Black and more at Allsorts’.

Over the next week I will be making a few changes, updating the information on our sidebar and giving the blog a bit of a facelift. I will also be listing dates of the next few challenges so you can easily check what is happening when, but I can tell you now that the next one will start on 6th November and the current challenge will be extended until midnight GMT on 31st October.

Now you may wonder why we are making these changes and think we have fallen out of love with our precious Penny Black stamps, but nothing could be further from the truth and the DT will all continue to use them on their DT work. But we do realise that not everybody is lucky enough to own Penny Black stamps and has been prevented from joining in previously.

So we hope the changes will make it easier for more of you to join in the fun and also have the opportunity to win the stamps on offer from Penny Black and our other sponsors so you can start your very own Penny Black collection....................warning they are addictive.

Hello everyone, I nearly forgot to do this post with all the wedding excitment yesterday. I was only going to watch to see Kate arrive at the Abbey, but it was compelling viewing and I was glued from 9am onwards. Such a lovely day for them both and she looked wonderful.

Welcome to our March challenge where we challenge you to "Welcome Spring".

The garden has been showing signs of new life for the last few weeks, a reminder of the wonders of Nature. I love this time of year and never fail to be amazed by by the fresh growth and colours that seem to burst forth as if by magic. The crafting possibilities are endless and we are really looking forward to seeing your take on this beautiful time of year.

As some of you might know, I have not been able to blog or craft for about six weeks now due to a relapse in my MS so am sorry I have not visited any of you this month. I think I am on the mend now, but would like to take this opportunity to thank all of my Design Team for their wonderful support during this time and ensuring the challenge kept running smoothly and you all got visited.....thank you girls, what a super bunch you are.

And I am afraid that I need to add a few words about the challenge rules.......I hate to keep reminding people but please, for the benefit of the majority of those who do comply with the rules, make sure you entry complies.....they are all listed on our sidebar and are pretty simple but these two are the ones that seem to get overlooked:

1) In line with all challenges, you must mention us in your post and link back to here........help in doing this is listed on our sidebar for those who are not sure how to do it.

2) Most important you must use a Penny Black image or Stickeroo as your main focal point on your work...........why else are we called Penny Black at Allsorts ?

Previously we have always tried to mail or leave a message to those with invalid entries, but this takes the DT a lot of time when they should be visiting valid entries, so in future I will just be adding a note alongside the name of any that do not fit the rules. Welcome to another challenge here at Penny Black at Allsorts and a bright new theme:

Just about anything goes here as long as we can see a flower or two and of course a Penny Black stamp or Stickeroo as your main image.

On that point, we have noticed a few creeping in with no Penny Black image so please make sure your entry fits the rules........after all we are not called Penny Black at Allsorts for nothing........... and who can resist their stamps anyhow ? We always try to leave a note for any who do not use a PB image but this takes the DT a lot of time when they could be visiting other blogs, so in future we will just add a note alongside the name on Mr Linky.

And a note about the closing date for this challenge, as it's February and a short month, the last time for entering will be Midnight GMT on 24th of the month, when Mr Linky will close.
